DAY 113

Standard
God's not hiding anything from us. All things are findable if we take the time to search.

Nothing is hidden. All things are findable if we take the time to search.

Have you ever just craved for something, and no matter what you were given, nothing but that thing would satisfy? I have been craving red-bean soup for the past two weeks (and yes, I do have a point). Today, I finally had the opportunity to sit down and enjoy a bowl. Let me just say, I think I heard the hallelujah chorus after the first bite. It was like taking a bite out of heaven. It was the right mixture of spicy and flavorful, it made my tongue HAPPY. Why? I have been craving it. No matter what I had eaten over the past two weeks, the craving never went away. After each of those meals, I still had a longing. It felt like something was…MISSING. I think for the most part, many of us walk around with that feeling everyday. The feeling that something is missing. How do we handle it? We amass stuff. When that doesn’t satisfy. We accumulate power. If that doesn’t work, we seek out glorification and think, “If I am the best, I won’t feel empty.” When that doesn’t work, then we turn to people. We accrue friends, lovers and anyone that can make us feeling like we are not missing something. I have a friend that has a movie theater in his house, more friends than he knows what to do with and he is the heir to one of the biggest companies in the world. Yet, he is one of the most unhappy, unfulfilled people I know. He is discontent. Why? Something is missing (I am about to go to that unpopular place again). I surmise that what’s missing…is God. There is a saying that goes: there is a God-shaped hole in all of us.  I am not pushing religion, or asking you to convert. I’m merely saying that if you can relate to this feeling of “missingness” (yeah I know it’s not a word, but it works), then maybe it is time to look beyond all the things you have been trying. For the past two weeks, I have tried to fill my desire for red-bean soup with everything, but red-bean soup. Today I am satisfied…nothing is missing. God is offering you the same. Once again, I am not telling you to do it because I said so. But I will also once again ask you to seek truth…REAL truth. God is not hiding. If you seek, really seek…you WILL find.

So what am I thankful for today? A longing fulfilled (and I am not just talking about red-bean soup).

  1. Alot of the times the missing part is God!! That is so true! Sometimes we think we have a food craving. But the truth is we have a ‘God Craving.’ We need to spend some time with our Lord. He can fill that craving!! Great post!!!
