Why blend in…when you were meant to stand out?

I am watching a new drama. It is a Korean show called “Who Are You” or 후아유 (the Korean makes me giggle) . It is a cross between Ghost Whisperer and X-files. Basically it is about a cop who woke up from a six year coma, and to her (not so welcomed) surprise she sees dead people (note to self…NO comas). To make matters worse she is partnered up with someone who thinks she is a crazy freak. She uses her gift (if you can call it that) to help solved crimes. Okay, right about now you’re saying to yourself, “What’s your point?” I swear I have one, and here it is. We all have a call, we all have gifts. But many of us miss our call because we prefer to align ourselves with society at large (so we can “fit in”), and so we end up losing or giving up our individuality. Thus, we never get the opportunity to use our gifts as they were meant to be used. What strikes me about the show is that our Heroine wants to fit in, she wants to be like everyone else, but she is not. However cumbersome it may be (in the show), her gift heals and brings peace to those who are left behind. I know it is just a television program, but the lesson is still true. Don’t forsake your calling/gift to “fit in”. We are not created to be like “the other guy”, we have a destiny, a plan, a design that is tailor-made just for us (you and I). The most content people in the world are not the ones with lots and lost of money (they’re just rich). The most content people in the world are those doing exactly what they were created to do…even if that means being a garbage collector. Don’t live to blend in, live to shine.

“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light”” (1 Peter 2:9).

So what am I thankful for today? That I am learning to use my gifts.
