So my suspicions about what was ailing me where, completely accurate. However, my actions where wrong, and now I am being punished with an extended visit to the  Hotelspital (hospital/hotel). I in the past 24 hours I have learned one thing, I am not meant for a life of leisure, I would be bored to tears by just lazing around. Life is all about action. No sitting on the sidelines for this girl. But what about those moments when you have to (sit on the sidelines)? What about those seasons when the game is being played, but you are on the bench? Now, I know this journey is not a game, but just like in sports sometimes we are meant to be the support for our teammates and not the main player. So far during my stay I have had the opportunity to catch up with people I haven’t spoken to in a while. I, as a captive audience have had the time to listen, and hear. It has been, oddly, a great time of refreshing. Do I want make a habit of this? NO, (although I have been hospitalized for three of the last four national holiday, this year…mmmmmm). But I also won’t despise or complain. Why? Because as with all experiences in life (good or bad) it has purpose. Mine: first and foremost is to be in a place where I can heal, secondly being here as given me time to hear and connect with others. It’s okay to warm the bench at times. Some days in life we are meant to be the star, other times we are meant to be the sun…a source that gives light to someone else’s moon.

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

So what am I thankful for today? Moments of rest on the bench.

  1. Hello friend – as I read what came to mind is maybe if you chose a little more voluntary “bench time” you would not experience the “enforced” bench time. Listen, my friend, to what your body is saying. It is not your enemy. Honor it as the temple that it is. God provided the sabbath rest for a reason, He knew and knows what is best for us. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] Matthew 11:28 Amplified.
