My friend and co-worker Stacy is a trooper. She is the dietitian at the cancer center I work for. Last week Friday I came into work to find my entire desk turned upside, all the way do to my computer screen (it was really funny). So today I got a tiny bit of payback. Stacy has a catch phrase which is: “Chickens don’t have nuggets!” She dislikes chicken nuggets, microwaves, and processed foods, all the good stuff 😉 (I mentioned she’s a dietitian, right?). So I enlisted the help of IT and went to town. This morning when she logged on to her computer, she was greeted by a picture of six piece chicken nuggets and a sign that said “We have reserved your chicken nuggets…and as an added bonus, we have added extra preservatives to keep it as fresh as you are!!!” But we didn’t stop there (upside down desk, remember), anytime she got an email or clicked a program she heard the McDonald’s theme song. Which was hilarious, because it would be dead quite and you’d hear…”I’m loving it…” Ha! This is why she’s cool, she has a sense of humor. We’d both start giggling every time the McDonald’s song would play, because it was at the oddest times. What’s my point?  Interaction counts. Laughing, and enjoying the day (especially at work) is the best way to get through this journey. Stacy and I work in a place where people come because they have received horrible news. If they find us smiling, find us friendly it makes the process they are about to go through that much easier. So enjoy your journey, enjoy your friends…your attitude could be the medicine someone else needs.
“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22).
So what am I thankful for today? Laughter, chicken nuggets, and a friend with a sense of humor.
