So today I did a very grown up thing…I bought a brand new, mattress. It’s grown-up to spend lots of money, right? I didn’t go over my budget (also grown up 🙂 ). But the experience taught me two lessons that I would like to share. The first and least important…mattress are ridiculously expensive!!! Geesh! The second comes with a story. Today my mom and I went to Mattress Firm with the sole intent of, well, mattress shopping (I am sure you figured that out all on your own). We walked into the store and were immediately greeted by Tom, who humorously asked, “What brings your ladies here today?” To which my mom answered, “We want to buy a mattress.” (I am laughing, it’s called MATTRESS Firm, what else would we be doing there?) Tom then throws my mom for a loop by saying, “But we don’t sell mattress here.” She looks at him quizzically. Seeing the confusion on her face he says, “Just kidding.” My mom laughs. The night prior I researched mattress to see what I wanted to buy. I went online compared price, quality, and durability and made a decision based solely on these three categories. I went directly to the mattress I had chosen online and said to Tom, “This is the one I want.” To which he replied, “Okay, but first let’s try something.” He leads me to an area with pillows told me to pick the one that best matched my pillow at home. Then he made me lay on each style of bed (including my original choice) in the position I normally woke up in. All the beds were nice, but only one of them felt like, JOY (It sadly was not my well researched bed), However, the magical bed was not only amazingly comfortable, it also met my three criteria. Here’s the lesson, in life and on the journey there is always room for learning. As we travel along it is okay to have beliefs and knowledge, but we need to be wise enough to know, that we don’t know everything. Today had I stuck to my guns I would have walked out with something that would have made me unhappy in the long run. There will be many times that we have an opinion or thought that we believe to be correct, be wise enough to see all sides before making your final choice.

“I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please'” (Isaiah 46:10).

So what am I thankful for today? Tom the sage salesman…and my magical mattress 😉 .
