I have a confession to make. Today I did not do my morning devotions. What is that you ask? It is my personal time reading my Bible and spending time with God. Why is that something I should care about, you ask? Because for me time spent with God changes my view of the day. When I wake up on any given morning, I am cranky (sooo NOT a morning person). I am irritated because I had to get up, and because I have go to work. But time alone with God changes my perspective. Instead of seeing the day as full of frustrations, I see it full of possibilities and opportunities for growth. With God’s point of view in my heart I see the people around me, not just me. I am more thoughtful, more honest, more open, more apt to give those around me the benefit of the doubt. With God’s perspective I am more prone to forgive, and at times even forget! Today the day wasn’t bad, but all day I had this feeling of something missing. It dawned on me halfway through that what was missing was my God view. The Bible isn’t a magical book. It’s not a genie, I don’t rub it to get a wish. It is a book of truth, a book that is relevant to my day and the way I live. It is a love letter from God telling us His heart and giving us an opportunity to learn His perspective. Today I can definitely say I felt the difference. You want a change of perspective? Open your Bible. As always I am not asking you to do it, because I do. But I will ask you to seek truth, real truth. It is not hiding.
“You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
So what am I thankful for today? Appreciating the difference that TRUTH makes.
