James 2. “My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, ‘Here’s a good seat for you,’ but say to the poor man, ‘You stand there’ or ‘Sit on the floor by my feet,’ have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?” (Verses 1-4). Do these verses make you feel a little guilty? They make me feel a little guilty. I think we often assume that richer means better, but God is reminding us that richer, simply means, richer. Wealth, status, and nice clothing does not equate to “good” or “better”. Don’t assume that. I have met many homeless people that I would spend time with over the wealthiest of persons. God came to save the “least of these” not the most affluent. Don’t judge a book by its cover. In fact don’t judge at all, we’re not God. Instead let’s just do what He says, and love without partiality.
