James 4. “Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’ As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them (Verses 13-17). It’s hard to have a point of view that shows us our own insignificance. We for the most part want to be the captain of our own ship, the driver of our own destiny. Which is going to be hard, since we can’t see the future. So it makes sense to trust our ship and our destiny to the One who can see the future. The One who holds tomorrow (and all the days after that) in His hands. Don’t assume you have tomorrow, you may not even have the rest of today.  Therefore trust and obey the One who has it all.
