Genesis 23. “Then Abraham rose from beside his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites. He said, ‘I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead'” (Verses 3-4). Sarah had died and after mourning, Abraham set about burying her. What I find interesting about this story is, God promised Abraham that everything as far as his eyes could see (at the time) was his. This included the very land where he wanted to bury his wife. Yet he was still humble, he didn’t lay claim, he was respectful and gave what was due to the present owners. Abraham did just expect people do what he wanted. I appreciate this action, we live in a world where everyone is all about “their” rights, we somehow believe we are entitled (falsely so) to whatever we want. Abraham really was entitled God The Creator said, “All this I give to you.” Yet Abraham did not see his entitlement as a means to be disrespectful. None of this is ours, it ALL belongs to God. We are not entitled to anything, it is all a gift from God.
