Leviticus 6. “And he shall bring his trespass offering to the Lord , a ram without blemish from the flock, with your valuation, as a trespass offering, to the priest. So the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord , and he shall be forgiven for any one of these things that he may have done in which he trespasses” (Verses 6-7). I had this thought this morning, which was that God has called us to repentance, He called us to make amends when we do wrong. Why? So we recognize our wrong doing. So we understand our wrong and feel shamed by it. So we won’t do it again. Thus the inverse is true: when we don’t confess, don’t make amends. We feel no sorrow, feel no shame about our actions and thus are prone to sin again and again. Till pretty soon sinning does not affect us at all. The purpose of the sacrifice wasn’t because God is cruel, but because He wants us to free from guilt.
