Leviticus 19. “When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God” (Verses 9-10). We are called to be generous without expecting something in return. In the old testament times, God had the harvesters purposely leave behind crops for the poor. In this way people provided for the needs of others and God blessed their obedience to Him.However, let’s be honest for a minute; it’s hard to let go of our stuff, especially if we worked hard to get it. Think about planting a crop, then watering, then harvesting. When we put all that hard work in, it is our selfish nature to expect something in return, we won’t be inclined to give it up easily. But that’s exactly what God called Israel to do, what He calls us to do. Why? We may have put all the work in, but God is the one that brings the harvest. So don’t hoard, give.
