Numbers 3. “The Lord also said to Moses, ‘I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring of every Israelite woman. The Levites are Mine, for all the firstborn are mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set apart for Myself every firstborn in Israel, whether human or animal. They are to be Mine. I am the Lord'” (Verses 11-13). Here’s an interesting thought (okay this is my perspective…I am NOT a bible scholar). In reading this chapter I noticed that God said the Levi’s are His, they are a ransom for the EVERY first born male in Israel, “Take the Levites in place of all the firstborn of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of their livestock” (Verse 45). This scripture made me think of the fact that Christ is the ransom for me. His life to spare mine, (and yours). In a ransom you make a payment, and this payment usually results in something or someone being set free. The Levites as a tribe were the ransom paid for every first born male in Israel, as a result of their ransom families were not separated, and a family with only one child (son) would not have to face the toil of labor alone, because God had provided a ransom. Today remember the ransom that was paid so that you (and I) could have free will. We live under grace and not law because Christ chose to be the ransom for our sins. The Levi’s were called, but Christ made a choice. Don’t take it for granted.
