Numbers 4. “ The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘See that the Kohathite tribal clans are not destroyed from among the Levites. So that they may live and not die when they come near the most holy things, do this for them: Aaron and his sons are to go into the sanctuary and assign to each man his work and what he is to carry. But the Kohathites must not go in to look at the holy things, even for a moment, or they will die'” (Verses 17-20). It seems a little odd that God would give the Kohathites the job of carrying the holy things, but they couldn’t look at them or touch them. Seems a little unfair, doesn’t it? No. The most holy things, where just that, the things that represented the God of Israel. They were Holy and set apart, therefore you had to be cleansed and pure to just look at them, much less touch them. The Kohathites were to carry the holy things out of the tent of the meeting, they would not be able to stay clean and pure during a journey. Knowing this God provided for their safety, He gave them exact assignment. God does that for us today as well, we all have boundaries, not limitations, BOUNDARIES. Things we are not meant to touch, not meant to see because for us it would mean sure death. While the death that the Kohathites would experience was literal, for us today the death could be spiritual, as well as physical. It could mean separation from God, from our Spiritual connection to our creator. When God sets a boundary it is not to take away our fun, it is to SAVE our life.
