Deuteronomy 23. “When you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and it would be sin to you. But if you abstain from vowing, it shall not be sin to you. That which has gone from your lips you shall keep and perform, for you voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth” (Verses 21-23). Don’t say it if you don’t mean it. If you do say it, own it. We are to be people of our word. We should have integrity. That word is almost extinct in our “sweet talk” culture. We say what people want to hear to get what we want, then find loop holes to renege on promises we have made. That’s not what we are called to do. Our word should be our bond. Live a life that allows another to trust you and take you at your word.
