Joshua 8. “Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered into your hands the king of Ai, his people, his city and his land. You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, except that you may carry off their plunder and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city” (Verses 1-2). Chapter 8 makes me think about Chapter 9. Here’s why. Achan was greedy and selfish, but had he waited, had he been obedient God would have blessed him. Because in the city of Ai God allowed Israel to keep the spoils and to keep the plunder, Achan would not have had to hide anything from God or his brothers. Waiting it is so hard, especially when our flesh wants everything now, now, now. I recently moved. I have arrived at my destination, however, my furniture has NOT. I am in the waiting stage, each day that my items do not come I get more and more agitated, because I want it NOW. But I have to wait patiently for the arrival. The point? The time it has taken for the furniture to arrive has allowed me to find a place to live and settle a few things before I had to spend hours even days, unpacking. Although I wanted it NOW. The time spent waiting was necessary and needed. Don’t despise waiting and don’t be greedy. Waiting teaches us patience, but it also helps us appreciate the things we DO have. In little or plenty we are blessed because God loves us.
