1 Samuel 14. “Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, ‘Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few.’ So his armor bearer said to him, ‘Do all that is in your heart. Go then; here I am with you, according to your heart'” (Verses 6-7). Jonathan has always been my favorite person in the Bible, second only to Jesus. Why? He had the kind of faith that I want, it seemed effortless. Like he didn’t need to be convinced, he just knew God was able. My second favorite words in the Bible are found in verses 6, “For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by “many” or a “few”. God has no limitations, that was Jonathan’s view. What God can do with a thousand, He can also do with just one. It’s not the amount that matters it’s God who matters. We forget this truth when we are facing our “Philistines”. We question how will we overcome, how we will be victorious when the problem is some much bigger than us? But God (<— my FAVORITE words in the Bible), is BIGGER than any trial we could ever face. So today let’s have the faith of Jonathan and remember that what God can do with a thousand, He can also do with just ONE.
