1 Samuel 27. “And David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites,[a] and the Amalekites. For those nations were the inhabitants of the land from of old, as you go to Shur, even as far as the land of Egypt. Whenever David attacked the land, he left neither man nor woman alive, but took away the sheep, the oxen, the donkeys, the camels, and the apparel, and returned and came to Achish. Then Achish would say, ‘Where have you made a raid today?’ And David would say, ‘Against the southern area of Judah, or against the southern area of the Jerahmeelites, or against the southern area of the Kenites.’ David would save neither man nor woman alive, to bring news to Gath, saying, ‘Lest they should inform on us, saying, ‘Thus David did.’ And thus was his behavior all the time he dwelt in the country of the Philistines. So Achish believed David, saying, ‘He has made his people Israel utterly abhor him; therefore he will be my servant forever'” (Verses 9-12). So this is interesting, David joins the camp of the enemy, but he completely works against them. talk about keeping your enemies closer… Here’s the thing while I understand David’s logical, he knew Saul wouldn’t go against the Philistines. In David’s mind the enemy would be the safest place. But God had kept him safe so far. He had even delivered Saul into David’s hands, not once, but twice. Yet David still chooses the easy way out. We all do the same from time to time choose the easy way. David will eventually reap the consequences of his actions, it happens to all who choose the easy way out. Don’t chose ease, choose God.
