2 Samuel 24. “Then the king said to Araunah, ‘No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing.’ So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord heeded the prayers for the land, and the plague was withdrawn from Israel” (Verses 24-25). Don’t offer to God that which costs us nothing. It is a strange statement because it gives off the feeling of trying to buy God, but that is not what it the statement means. We can’t buy God, all that we have from Him he gives freely, but it came at the cost of His son. God freely sacrificed for us, and we must be willingly to do the same for Him. Reciprocating His love. Ever got a re-gifted present? It makes you feel as though you weren’t important enough for the giver to get you something that was meant solely for you. It is the same when we give God our leftovers, our “whatevers”. When we give it should have cost us something, sacrifice, time, love… Don’t re-gift to God.
