DAY 33 (2014)

Standard
It's not just about WHAT you hear. It's Also about HOW you hear.

It’s not just about WHAT you hear. It’s Also about HOW you hear.

I have been noticing lately that God is NOT subtle. He has been hitting home at every given opportunity a reminder of this year’s journey to “GO” and “DO”. For me when God is constant and consistent in the reminder He is saying, “Now, not later.” I have made steps and preparation, the thing is, for me the path is not clear and fear of misstep has kept my feet firmly planted in place. But this morning God was clear and concise. He did NOT mince words. I want to walk you through what I learned, because I have a sneaking feeling this wasn’t just for me alone. On Sundays my Pastor is going through the book of Luke, the title of the message is Help Them. Heal Them.  He then pulls a word that will be the key point for the verses we study. Today’s word…LIGHT. The study started in verse 16 of Luke 8. But it was in verse 18 that God woke me up. It reads like this, “Therefore take heed HOW you HEAR…” Now let me recap the of the verses to give you a picture of the story. Jesus says to the disciples, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake” (Verse 22). They get into the boat and Jesus falls asleep. A storm comes, the boat begins to fill with water. The disciples freak out, Jesus is still asleep. They wake Him up, “Master, Master we are perishing!” (Verses 23-24). He woke up rebuked the wind and waves and the storm STOPS. Then He says to His disciples, “Where is your faith?” (Verses 24-25). And BAM! Just like that God got me. Why? They (the disciples) didn’t hear Him properly. He said, “Let us GO to the other side of the lake”. He didn’t say, “Hopefully we’ll make it to the other side” nor did He say, “I hope we beat the storm, so we make it to the other side.” He said. “LET US GO”. Storms will come, the waters will rise, and the boat will rock (hard), but if Jesus isn’t afraid, then why am I. He said to me, “GO” and “DO”, He did not say, “I hope you get the chance to go and do”. He gave guidance, therefore He will get me there. The problem isn’t in what God said, the problem is in how we hear. Jesus said, “Take heed HOW YOU HEAR.” So let’s take heed HOW we hear.

“So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them” (Luke 8:18).

So what’s my plan of attack. To not only pay attention to WHAT I hear, but HOW I hear.
