My cellphone and I are getting a divorce. Well, it is not ALL the phone’s fault, some of it has to do with the service provider. But since some-one has to take the fall for me not being able to use my cellphone in my house…the phone gets the boot. As I sat contemplating my upcoming disengagement, I had this thought: “Is there anything else in my world I need to divorce?” Are there other ties I need severe? Are there habits, behaviors, friendships, or circumstances that I am holding on to, that are holding me back? I did not enjoy asking myself these questions. Because the answer was a resounding, yes. Life can move at the speed of light and often times we hang on to things as a safety blanket of sorts. Why? Because we (even if we don’t like them) understand them. I am reminded of my recent stay in the hospital and the things that I learned about myself through that time. As I get ready to get rid of something that is very familiar (my phone), I think I will take the time to get rid of other unnecessary baggage as well. It is not always easy to take stock of ourselves, but it always necessary to have a honest look at what we are afraid to let go off. Often times the things we hold on to, have to stay in the past…we can’t move forward with them. They won’t work in our future, just like a cellphone that can’t find service when you need it the most.
“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).
So what am I thankful for today? Honest estimation, a lighter load…Oh, and a new phone 😉

This seriously made me think of a cellphone fast. They are so refreshing but few can do them.
Any who, it is so important to keep ourselves in constant check and see what ties we are forming or have formed. We must always cut of all ungodly ties. Otherwise, we will never experience true intimacy with God if we do not.
Good stuff!
A phone fast, that’s a fantastical idea! I am seriously thinking about doing this. We don’t realize how many things we let get in the way of our relationship with God.
You should! They are awesome!! Any fast is good in my opinion.
Agreed…fasting refreshes our perspective.
