(This letter was sent to Victor Marx, from a teenage boy who is in prison. I posted it under my If You Could tab to ask this question:)

I wanted to do something new. Not something arbitrary like joining a gym, losing weight, getting married, etc. I wanted to change from the inside-out. So, I decided to find one thing to be thankful for each day. On this journey some days have been really good, while others have been disastrously bad, yet every day has produced at least one reason to be thankful. My perspective is changing and for that I am ... Thankful.

  1. If I could respond to the letter? First of all, what a privilege it would be to do so! Here goes:

    Dear __

    I received your note and all I can say is Glory be to God Almighty, and welcome to the family of God!!

    Did you know that when accepted Him as Lord and Savior, He not only entered your name into the Book of Life so that you can go to Heaven one day – but He also made you a completely new person inside? You may be physically living in a prison cell, as a consequence of your former self’s actions, but your new and re-created inner-man is now seated with Christ Jesus in heavenly places and as He is, so are you, in this world, right now!(Ephesians 2:6, and 1 John 4:17).

    I want to encourage you to keep reading your Bible, with the same passion and vigor that a starving man approaches a banquet table! Eat until you’re stuffed, and then go back and eat some more! Let the power of the Word completely change your thinking about who you are in Christ, for truly the old man has passed away, and you are a new man! You are everything that God says you are – and in Him you have everything He says you have! This is a mystery we will never completely understand this side of heaven, but the more you are able to accept and receive this as truth, the greater the victory you will experience here on earth.

    I’m also sending you some additional materials and will contact the local church to ensure that you receive the love and support from your brothers and sisters in Christ who are in the area.

    I shall keep you in prayer and invite you to write again. May God richly bless you and keep you, may He shine His light upon you, and grant you peace.
